El objetivo del estudio fue explorar el potencial del diseño tangible para sostener la voluntad en la educación a distancia. Se realizaron entrevistas semiestructuradas con seis estudiantes. El análisis fenomenológico interpretativo de las entrevistas evidenció las dificultades que pueden atenuarse mediante la implementación de estrategias volitivas como la estructuración del tiempo y el entorno, la gestión de las emociones y la motivación, y la investigación de apoyo social. Se propusieron cinco objetos tangibles para atender las necesidades del alumnado: el tubo (...) de recompensa, el álbum de las victorias, el termómetro emocional, la gorra de aprendizaje y el guardián del tiempo. The dispute on mongrelization starts to play a fundamental role in Latin America inside the modernist debates about the national unity between the end of the XIX century and the beginning of the XX century, to later acquire an unprecedented global diffusion in the eighties and the nineties of the last century. Using the writings of the Bolivian sociologist Silvia River Cusicanqui and of the Argentinian anthropologist, who has long since been active in Brazil, Rita Segato, the essay reconstructs (...) the historic and political happening of metissage in Latin America. The authors show that it is an historical concept which worked as an instance of legitimation both in the period of colonial oppression and later in the epoch of republican modernization. It represents the instrument to hide – if not to delete – the original character of modern State; for this reason it has been able to play a fundamental role in the epoch of liberalism as much as in the neoliberal one. However in mongrelization what is also at stake is that it can express the radically de-colonizing impulse of the differences as forms of litigation which inhabit the complex contemporary Latin American territories. Austerity as management of public debt is at the core of neoliberal policies and proceeds as differential exploitation. To explore the gendered dimensions of debt, the paper inquires how debt is bond to desire and inscribed in bodies. After indulging in David Graeber’s, Gilles Deleuze’s and Félix Guttari’s work, the analysis focuses on accumulation through debt and dispossession. Drawing on Verónica Gago, Luci Cavallero and Silvia Federici, it reflects how current economies of debt exploit feminized work in times of (...) authoritarian neoliberalism. We advance research on how businesses engage with the complex social problems currently known as Grand Challenges. We study the concepts that preceded the term Grand Challenges, the connected ontologies that ground them, and the diversity of perspectives they offered. We construct a knowledge map that includes well-researched obstacles, such as governance obstacles hindering engagement and sensemaking obstacles limiting the ideation of novel and creative efforts. But we also build on prior research to identify curation obstacles, which precede engagement and (...) define which problems receive social attention, and adaptation obstacles, which create uncertainty over workable solutions and bias the momentum of social systems toward the status quo. Our broader view on the obstacles defining Grand Challenges opens new pathways and identifies underexplored levers by which to understand and influence business engagement with complex social problems. It is well known that the class of finite STS has a Fraïssé limit M_F. Here, we show that the theory T of M_F is the model completion of the theory of STSs. Engages Levinas and Heidegger on the provocative issue of an ethics of things.

In light of the World Anti Doping Agency’s 2013 Code Revision process, we critically explore the applicability of two of three criteria used to determine whether a method or substance should be considered for their Prohibited List, namely its (potential) performance enhancing effects and its (potential) risk to the health of the athlete. To do so, we compare two communities of human guinea pigs: (i) individuals who make a living out of serial participation in Phase 1 pharmacology trials; and (ii) (...) elite athletes who engage in what is effectively ‘unregulated clinical research’ by using untested prohibited or non-prohibited performance enhancing substances and methods, alone or in combination. Our comparison sheds light on norms of research ethics that these practices exacerbate with respect to the concepts of multiplicity, visibility, and consistency. We argue for the need to establish a proper governance framework to increase the accountability of these unregulated research practices in order to protect the human guinea pigs in elite sports contexts, and to establish reasonable grounds for the performance enhancing effects, and the risks to the health of the athlete, of the methods and substances that might justify their inclusion on the Prohibited List. Professional skepticism is a critical component of the auditor’s skill set. Developing this component takes time for accounting students and new auditors. Rather than waiting until they have an internship or a full-time auditing position, students can begin practicing this essential skill earlier in their academic careers. The case presents students in their first undergraduate auditing course an introduction to the need for more complex thinking and professional skepticism in the auditing and forensic accounting areas. The case focuses on risk (...) assessment and critical evaluation of audit evidence, primarily through audit interviews. In addition, the case allows students to learn the value of preparation and strategy uniquely: their first attempt at the case is almost impossible to solve. (shrink)

The relation between the Greek and Judeo-Christian traditions is "the great problem" of Western philosophy, according to Emmanuel Levinas. In this book Brian Schroeder, Silvia Benso, and an international group of philosophers address the relationship between Levinas and the world of ancient thought. In addition to philosophy, themes touching on religion, mythology, metaphysics, ontology, epistemology, ethics, and politics are also explored. Essays address the major themes of Pareyson’s hermeneutic philosophy in the context of his existentialist approach to personhood. What if the inexhaustible were the only mode of self-revelation of truth? En “Sur un autoportrait de Rembrandt”, Paul Ricoeur trabaja la identidad del pintor holandés analizando un autorretrato de 1660. En vista de que Ricoeur aborda “la escritura como un capítulo en una teoría general de la iconicidad”, da lugar a entenderlo de modo semejante a como W. J. T. Mitchell propone leer a Jaques Derrida: como “un filósofo de la versión gráfica del giro pictorial”. De sostenerse esta lectura, por una parte, la iconicidad devendría una dimensión irreductible de la comprensión (...) de sí. Por la otra, en el autorretrato de Rembrandt de 1660, el autor “real”, tras disolverse en el personaje “irreal” que retrató, creó la distancia para que en carácter de espectador pueda examinarse autobiográficamente merced a objetivarse en su imagen especular. Y en ese análisis de sí por sí devendría un sí mismo capaz de vivir una vida digna de ser vivida. De ser consiste la argumentación, nuestra hipótesis es que la “identidad narrativa”, largamente trabajada por Ricoeur, quedaría subordinada a, al tiempo que complementaría, lo que damos en llamar aquí la “identidad icónica”. A lo largo de este artículo se aborda el contexto histórico, social, espiritual y teológico en el que se enmarca el pensamiento eckhartiano: la agitada situación de Alemania a finales del siglo XIII y principios del XIV, la incesante búsqueda espiritual de tantas mujeres, beguinas y monjas, de los grupos de amigos de Dios, y las desviaciones de los seguidores del Libre Espíritu. Junto a ello, la escuela filosófica de Colonia, establecida por San Alberto Magno, a la que perteneció el (...) Maestro Eckhart junto con sus discípulos, Suso y Tauler. Asimismo se presentan las principales nociones para comprender su teología mística, cómo concibe a Dios, al ser humano y su "fondo del alma", de qué manera se produce la unión del alma con Dios, la "irrupción" o el nacimiento del Verbo en el alma, y las condiciones para ello, como el desprendimiento de todo lo creado y de uno mismo, para recibir, por gracia, la Vida divina, la bienaventuranza eterna. We consider breath as a vast prospect that includes actions and traces of them, that builds images and texts, that involves the human being and the extra-human context; we call this great scenery ‘breathscape’. We then study how breathscape interacts with the human apparatus of the face, both giving rise to signs, but also giving rise to a liminal zone of extremely intriguing interpretative processes on a mereological scale. How and where do the territory of breath and the body interact? (...) Which processes of signification do they give rise to? And which signs are created in their phenomenal and semantic encounter? Art is certainly the most appropriate language for studying this process, as well as for letting opacities emerge and exploring outstanding contrasts. There are various concepts of ‘breathscape’ that, grounded in different cultures, are immediately associated with ancient and contemporary philosophies. As a reverberation from a semiotic interaction and through the discretization and identification of semantic fields relevant to the concerned scenario, and introducing textuality, a phenomenon seen as a crystallization of the transition between outer text (the text of reality) and text (subject/object), we consider those visual texts which are crossed by a common faculty that is both descriptive and inventive: by approaching some inferential and cultural regimes and analysing their specific enunciative practices, we then contribute to their renovation. The texts related to the practices as part of the narratives intrinsic to cultural semiospheres underline the insatiable vastness of epistemological content to be dealt with, and the functional reductionism of the corpus is only a first approach to the field that is intended to shed light on the general panorama and to stimulate subsequent debate and insights. El presente trabajo se propone establecer la actualidad de una ética de las virtudes de estilo aristotélico en el ámbito de la ética clínica. La relación establecida por Maclntyre entre las prácticas y los “patrones de excelencia” que rigen internamente su ejercicio, juntamente con el enfoque de Pellegrino y Thomasma de la medicina como “comunidad moral” en la que las habilidades técnico-científicas y la disposición moral del agente configuran una unidad indisoluble en el acto médico, son la base del análisis (...) sobre la especificidad de la práctica médica y los consecuentes requerimientos morales de quienes la ejercen. La crisis de la medicina occidental que en los últimos treinta años provocó importantes puntos de fractura con la tradición hipocrática, ofrece una posibilidad de salida reinterpretando sus propios fines. De ello se sigue la necesidad de retomar líneas de la tradición que el ideal de la medicina científica, las reglas del mercado y la burocratización de la atención sanitaria parecieran haber obturado. En esta encrucijada es donde el énfasis puesto por la ética de las virtudes en el ethos profesional, anclado en el compromiso con las personas concretas cuyo beneficio da sentido a la actividad y a las instituciones médicas, resulta imprescindible para balancear las falencias de una ética fundada en principios, sin que ello implique renunciar a los efectivos logros del universalismo moral.This work is meant to set up the present importance of the ethic of virtues, which follows the Aristotelian style in the field of clinical ethics. The relationship established by Maclntyre between the practices and the “patterns of excellence” which internally guides these practices, together with the view of Pellegrino and Thomasma about medicine as a “moral community” in which the technical-scientific skills and the agent’s moral dispositions shape an indissoluble link in the medical act, are the basis for the analysis on the specificity of the medical practice and the moral requirements of the practitioners. The crisis of western medicine that in the last thirty years has given rise to important break points with the hippocratic tradition, offers a possible resolution by the re-interpretation of its proper ends. Therefore, it is a need to return to traditional ways that seem to have lost vigour for the dominance of the ideal of a scientific medicine, for the market rules and bureaucratized health care. In this intersection, the emphasis on a virtue ethic on the professional ethos, grounded on the engagement with the patient whose benefit gives meaning to the activity and medical institutions, is indispensable for the balance of the failures of a principle-based ethic without renouncing to the effective achievement of moral universalism. Este trabajo constituye una reflexión en torno a la idea de realidad en X. Zubiri. La obra de este pensador se edifica en estrecho diálogo con la metafísica occidental; pero lo que está a la base de este diálogo es una nueva idea de realidad, con lo que queda intrínsecamente modificado el contenido mismo de la metafísica.Hemos ordenado nuestra exposición en dos pasos:1- La realidad como carácter físico de las cosas.El concepto de realidad queda determinado para Zubiri por la actuación (...) “física” de unas cosas sobre otras. Físico y real son sinónimos en el sentido de contrapuestos a intencional o conceptivo.2- La realidad como carácter formal de lo aprehendido en impresiónEn este punto se articulan dos temas nucleares de la filosofía zubiriana: realidad e intelección sentiente, que conforman una estructura unitaria. Para Zubiri, la intelección no es acto de una facultad ni de una conciencia, sino que es en sí misma un acto de aprehensión, que como tal pertenece también al sentir. En el hombre, lo aprehendido en impresión queda “desde sí mismo” como siendo ya algo “de suyo” o “en propio”. (shrink)

L'A. propone una ampia introduzione sull'attività di Egidio come commentatore di Aristotele, sulla fortuna dei suoi commenti e sull'attività di Egidio all'Università di Parigi. I dieci commenti aristotelici sono analizzati separatamente, in ordine cronologico, cominciando dalle Quaestiones metaphysicales che sono la reportatio di un corso tenuto a Parigi da Egidio. La datazione dei testi si basa sul metodo delle autocitazioni , sull'esame della dottrina tomista dell'unicità della forma e sui riferimenti agli ultimi libri della Metaphisica. Tra i testi esaminati l'A. (...) comprende anche il commento allo pseudo-aristotelico De bona fortuna e il commento al Liber de causis. Chiudono il contributo una tavola riassuntiva della cronologia, che illustra anche le autocitazioni egidiane, e una appendice dove sono elencati i rimandi dei commenti e delle altre opere egidiane, le citazioni degli ultimi tre libri della Metafisica e le citazioni della Translatio nova del De generatione, usata da Egidio nel commento a quest'opera aristotelica. Dada la polaridad entre las teorías "legitimistas" (Weber) e "ilegitimistas" (Arendt) respecto de la violencia en la arena política, en este artículo se explora el aporte de Paul Ricoeur en torno al tema. Puesto que para este autor lo político es la realización de la intención ética, primero se abordará la dimensión ética y moral de la violencia. Después se ingresará en el dominio propiamente político donde Ricoeur defiende una dialéctica "asimétrica" entre los argumentos "ilegitimistas" y "legitimistas" en la cual (...) los primeros adquieren razonabilidad dentro de un concepto "amplio" de violencia próximo al de Arendt. Por último, se abordará la dimensión temporal de la violencia presente en la memoria colectiva y en la historia. Se concluirá con un balance de los méritos y de las cuestiones parcialmente irresueltas en la obra de Ricoeur. Given the polarity between the "legitimist" (Weber) and the "illegitimist" (Arendt) theories of violence in the political field, I will explore the philosophical contributions of Paul Ricoeur to this issue. Since the political field is for the author the accomplishment of the ethical intention, I will first explore the ethical and moral dimension of violence. Secondly, I will enter in the proper political field where we will see Ricoeur defends an "asymmetrical" dialectic between the "legitimist" and "illegitimist" arguments in which the former acquire reasonability within a "broad" concept of violence akin to Arendt's. Thirdly, I will approach the temporal dimension of violence as it appears in collective memory and in history. I will conclude with an account of the merits and partially unresolved questions within Ricoeur's work. (shrink)

In this research work I take into account the relation of indistinguishability. This relation seems to be prima facie reflexive, symmetric and transitive; in short, an equivalence relation. However, there are some cases where the relation under consideration fails to be transitive. In this thesis I will discuss two of those cases: vagueness of gradabale adjectives and count nouns, and identity criteria involving perceptual phenomena. My research attempts to answer the following question: how is it possible to communicate and to (...) make meaningful judgments using vague terms and non-transitive identity criteria? This thesis presents an analysis of vagueness and identity criteria that shows that speakers always consider the elements which vague expressions refer to or whose names compose identity statements within a context and from a certain level of precision. I also attempt to provide a formal treatment of vague adjectives and count nouns on the one hand, and of identity criteria on the other. I employ two key concepts in both the treatments: context dependence and granularity. (shrink)
